Liinu Grönlund: Briefly

In Spring 2011 I travelled to Malta to be as close as possible to the Libyan war. Some birds had already migrated from Africa, and the first boat refugees arrived from Libya. The fortress town welcomes the visitor with its silent facade. Malta is situated 350 kilometres from Tripoli.
I took photos on slide film with a vintage automatic camera, searching for signs and evidence. I think of all the things that sea washes to the shore: trash, driftwood, people. Voiceover in the video is a combination of conversations I had with the locals, my notes, and the information media gave about the war.
