How are pearls born?
Installation in the telephone box downstairs
Mixed media 2024
Little by little, a mother-of-pearl creature has crystallized in the limited space, as a mussel’s way of defending itself against a threat. Through the reflection in the glass covering the black background, the viewer and the environment are involved but, on the other hand, they share a feeling of inaccessibility with the mysterious figure that has solidified into matter and has shown up in our reality. The work cannot be photographed with bright lights; it must be viewed on the terms of its dark location, finding its essence through the reflection.
The figure is surrounded by soft fabric like the night. The whiteness is like a treasure in the darkness. The mussel promotes the disturber to a gemstone with the mother-of-pearl and, at the same time, degrades it with something that is actually secretion.
The mussel plays with the figure like a doll; the matter running, the flows from abundance, from the source of the substance solidify for a moment that we see in the formation of the shape, layer by layer, patiently.
