Love and the dark force that destroys it, these two extremes have inspired the paintings included in the exhibition.
I call the figures in my paintings “poor people”. They are struggling in the grasp of omnipotence and the possibilities of death and destruction. Through these poor people my aim has been to reach the simultaneous manifestation of longing for love and the force that destroys it, some kind of moment of conscious choice where one has the opportunity to choose whether to go in a direction that builds the love or destroys it. The question that particularly puzzles me is: Why do love colored relationships with the world and other people go from love to hate? I cannot answer this question, but I want to challenge the exhibition visitors to consider what kind of love for people and the world they have in their lives.
Janne Kärkkäinen (b. 1981) graduated from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2011. He mainly works with paintings. His works have been previously displayed at the Hyvinkää Art Museum and the Helsinki Art Museum Tennis Palace.
