Gallery Huuto Viiskulma displays my paintings which combine acrylic and oil. The world in the paintings varies from cute and tender to wild and contrastic. I’m interested in moments when something strange, scary or funny gets mixed with the familiar. My work often tells about presence and absence and also about the unstable boundary between these two. The possibility to present interpenetrating time levels and contradictory worlds in the same picture facinates me in painting. Desolate places, attention-seeking children or for example a panda that has escaped into a tree appear in my pictures. The subjects and the colours differ from each other, but a thickened and stratified atmosphere connects my paintings.
All the paintings in the exhibition are made during the year 2006, most of them in the summer. The intensive painting process and the melting heat of the summer have left their mark on these paintings. Even if it looks like it’s snowing in many of the paintings, for me, the unrestrainedness of the summer and the autumn that always comes too soon are present in these works. A lanscape in a table cloth of a Chinese restaurant is transferred in one of the paintings on the quiet. In the summer you don’t feel like cooking every day.
Along with the paintings in Gallery Huuto I make collages and installations. I’m a visual artist, graduated from Tampere Polytechnic department of art in year 2004. At this moment I continue my studies in the master’s programme in The Helsinki University of Art and Design.
