Sebastian Ziegler
Licht über Licht
5.10. – 21.10.2012
Galleria Huuto Uudenmaankatu
The exhibition Licht über Licht presents video sculptures that combine contemporary technology with historical materials, such as wood and clay. The exhibition focuses on electronic sources of light since they are all around us. What is the speed of light and how to tweak the frequency of it? Light exists, but disappears when the source of electricity is switched off. Does light become stronger when there are lots of light sources or does the intensity diminish?
Sebastian takes the position of a caveman, someone who sees an electrical device for the very first time and wonders what its purpose is. He discovers unexpected electronic landscapes and how beautifully the light gets swallowed up when a television is turned off.
Sebastian Ziegler (b. 1978, Victorville, CA, USA) graduated from the University of the Arts Bremen in 2006. Since then he has worked mainly with video and interactive sculptures. His interest lays in the everyday magic that surrounds us, as in the simple and common wonders of physics. He is currently living and working in Finland and is part of Arte ry, Muu ry, BBK-Bremen, Kokomys and the media artist network ”videokaffe”.
