Meandering
Galleria Huuto Jätkäsaari – Pikkujätkä
10.2.-4.3.2018
Meandering is an installation that combines moving images with sound, showing the environment seen by someone. This someone walks in forests, along roadsides and in meadows, occasionally stopping to explore the view. At times, the common sounds heard take on a life of their own, creating music-like entities.
The images are like windows that only show a part of something bigger. The sounds, on the other hand, aim to portray the wider environment around the wanderer – both the concrete environment and the wanderer’s reality where realism and imagination become blurred. The installation is based on the experience that the sense of hearing constantly transmits information from every direction, while vision is a lot more limited and dependent on head movements.
The installation moves like a stream of consciousness from one situation and view to another. It rather depicts walking at the focal point of visual and auditory sensations than as part of the surrounding reality.
The exhibition has been supported by Svenska kulturfonden and Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
