Milla Kuisma
A changing arrangement
23.7.-15.8.2021
The artist is present: 31 July and 1 August at 12-5 pm.
In the works of the exhibition, I have placed memories, experiences of places, imagined views and observations on life. I have arranged the tangle of strokes without a plan, played with the contrasts between depth and surface and undisciplined and disciplined gestures.
In my paintings, inanimate and animate objects interact with each other. Various ways of being and the layers of time are intertwined. This is linked to the collage-like painting style, in which the whole is created by several pieces joined together.
The torn painting strips can also be seen as signs of breaking or natural deterioration. The works contain signs of the passing of time and change. When organizing the painting elements, I have thought about altering and being altered and finding a balance between control and a lack of control. Life does not always go our way. Instead, it springs up, rambles, withers and makes room for something new.
