Paintings
7.10 – 25.10.2009
Galleria Huuto Uudenmaankatu
The most recent exhibition of Jussi Goman (born 1980), in Galleria Huuto Uudenmaankatu, is his first solo exhibition in Helsinki since 2006. Goman has attended Kankaanpää Art School as well as the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts from where he graduated as Master of Fine Arts in the spring of 2008. Earlier this year, his works were on display in the group exhibition Ihmisen jäljet in the Oulu Museum of Art.
The exhibition consists of Goman’s paintings from the last couple of years. By means of humor, and especially irony, his paintings discuss the current affairs, artistic ideas, and painting strategies. His works often include sore points that open the doors to significant ideas or emotions. A developed flair for composition as well as good understanding of how the structure of a painting can be broken in order to create a special effect are evidenced by the works.
Effortlessly and creatively, Jussi Goman’s paintings move in the gamut of contemporary art and the entire visual culture. The paintings feature comic-like aspects as well as ones that respect the traditions of painting. In addition, the works take the floor about the various stylistic variations of contemporary painting, and are, in this respect, evidence that painting is a significant and central part of contemporary art.
In the exhibition, there are various works from watercolors to oils. The artist is versatile both in terms of themes and in different techniques. The majority of the works is on display to the public for the first time.
