Tellervo Viitaniemi
11.5 – 29.5.2011
Galleria Huuto Uudenmaankatu
My portraits include the faces of eight different people: myself, my sister, father, mother and grandparents.
The works, however, do not portray anyone, even though they are based on photographs.
Each portrait consists of two or three faces blended together.
The oldest pictures are from the 1930s, while the newest ones were taken this year.
I wanted to create a portrait that doesn’t identify anyone, but is still true.
The pictures have been screen printed onto translucent gauze, after which several layers of gauze have been varnished on top of each other.
