Terhi Heino
Galleria Huuto Uudenmaankatu
18.1.–29.1.2006
Preparing this exhibition has been like a leap to unknown, especially due to new material experiments. I am interested in meanings and associations of everyday objects and materials. My art works can at the first sight look very familiar, but the materials, which they are made of and their placements in space make them look like they are from an another reality.
New interpretations come out from this conclict. My working methods, for example collecting natural materials, drying them and experimenting with them, take a lot of time. As new materials for this exhibition I have used fish skin and banana leafs.
Even if all the objects in this exhibition have an own story to tell, the main idea is to create a feeling of temporary residence. Sometimes temporary periods in your life seem to become permanent. In this residence everything is on the move and nothing is stable. I guess it all started from when I worked as an artist-in- residence in Paris. The jazz channel on the radio had a slogan: “Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny.” A fish radio?
